Christmas Shop Planned

Emmanuel Episcopal Church and Church of Our Redeemer in Aldie will hold a 2002 Christmas Shop with more than 25 exhibitors from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Saturday at Middleburg Community Center, 300 W. Washington St. For information, call 540-687-6297.

Baptist Pastor Named

Leesburg Baptist/Community Church announced that Charles Randall Ashcroft will be its new senior pastor and begin preaching Sunday. Ashcroft comes from Bayshore Baptist Church in Tampa, where he has been senior minister since 1989.

Church members selected Ashcroft unanimously after a nationwide search, said Kevin Murray, chairman of the search committee.

A native of Tyler, Tex., Ashcroft graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and received his Master of Divinity degree from Texas Christian University.

Food Donations Sought

A nonprofit consortium of 15 churches called LINK is seeking donations of grocery store gift certificates and nonperishable food to help feed more than 800 low-income families in the Sterling and Herndon areas at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Suggested donations for holiday baskets include canned meats, fruits and vegetables, spaghetti sauce and pasta, peanut butter and jelly, rice, cereal and other boxed items.

Donations can be left at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 651 Dranesville Rd., Herndon, or Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 46833 Harry Byrd Hwy., Sterling, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 18-22.

Families can shop for food at the churches on Nov. 23 and Dec. 21. They will also receive gift certificates to area grocery stores where they can purchase a turkey and perishable items.
