A woman died on a busy Prince George's County street last night after she was beaten by at least two women following a minor car accident and then was hit by a passing car, a witness said.
Cpl. Joe Merkel, a Prince George's police spokesman, said the woman pulled up about 9 p.m. to the Ebony Inn, a lounge, restaurant and liquor store in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road in the Fairmount Heights area.
A witness said the woman's car accidentally hit the side mirror of another car as she pulled around a corner to the restaurant's drive-through area. Two or three women got out of the second car and started screaming at the woman, who jumped out of her vehicle and started to run, the witness said. The women chased her down and beat her, he said.
"She was scared. She was running to save herself," the witness said. "This was senseless."
While the fight continued in the road, a passing car hit the woman, Merkel said. The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"We don't know if she died because of injuries from the car accident or the fight," Merkel said.
The beating suspects fled. The driver whose car hit the woman stopped at the scene and was not charged, he said.
