Record: 9-0, 7-0 in 3A/2A/1A league (champion). Finished second in the 3A East Region (10.17 power-point average) to earn the fifth seed.

The road ahead: The Yellow Jackets will play at fourth-seeded Calvert (8-2) at 7 p.m. Friday for a berth in the semifinals against the Annapolis-Seneca Valley winner. The Maryland 3A championship game will be played Nov. 29 or 30 at Ravens Stadium in Baltimore.

Playoff appearances: 1992, 1996, 2000-02.

Postseason history: The Yellow Jackets have a postseason record of 3-4. Gwynn Park had its best postseason in 2000, advancing to the Maryland 2A final before falling to Urbana, 49-8, the same school that ousted the Yellow Jackets in the quarterfinals of the 3A tournament last year, 34-14.

You probably did not know: In three of Gwynn Park's four previous trips to the playoffs, the Yellow Jackets have been defeated by the eventual champion. Gwynn Park fell to Seneca Valley in the 3A semifinals in 1992 and to Urbana in the 2A state final in 2000 and in last year's 3A quarterfinals. The lone exception came in 1996, when Westlake defeated Gwynn Park, 24-12, in a 3A quarterfinal game before losing to Damascus in the state final, 41-12.

What the Yellow Jackets must do to win it all: "They have the athletes to win it all, and the defense. They don't make a lot of mistakes, and they are well-coached and should be prepared against any team they play. . . . This is the year for Gwynn Park to win it, that's for sure." -- Douglass Coach J.C. Pinkney.
