Trapped Opossum Rescued
Bowie, Booth Bay Way, 11300 block, Nov. 12. Animal Management was called about an opossum found in a trap. An animal control officer released the healthy opossum in a rural area.
Stray Cat Impounded Mount Rainier, 4200 block, Nov. 11. A stray black cat in the hallway of a building appeared to be sick. An animal control officer found the 1-year-old male cat to be in fair condition and took it to the shelter.
Spitz Found Tied to Pole Hyattsville, 38th Ave., 5000 block, Nov. 9. A small, white stray dog was found tied to a pole near a trash can at a basketball court. It was taken to a residential front porch, where it was kept with it until an animal control officer arrived. The white male spitz was taken to the shelter to be claimed or adopted.
Stray Dogs Taken to Shelter
Forestville, Mane Lane, 7700 block, Nov. 9. An animal control officer picked up a stray dog found in the back yard of a residence. The healthy 4-month-old mixed border collie was put up for adoption.
College Park, Huron St., 4900 block, Nov. 10. Animal Management was called about a stray dog that had escaped after being taken into a home. An animal control officer found a very thin female mixed yellow Labrador retriever running loose in the neighborhood. The officer took the dog to the shelter for evaluation.
Capitol Heights, Addison Rd., 4600 block, Nov. 11. A resident brought home a stray black and white dog and contacted Animal Management. The female Alaskan malamute appeared to be pregnant. An animal control officer took the healthy dog to the shelter, where it was determined that it had been spayed, was not pregnant and had been implanted with an ID microchip. The dog was to be held at the shelter until an owner could be located.
Temple Hills, Allen Ct., 6200 block, Nov. 11. Animal Management was asked to help with a stray brown and white female German shepherd being held at a residence. An animal control officer found the dog, in fair condition, tied to a motorcycle on the residence's front porch. The dog was taken to the shelter for further evaluation.
Adelphi, West Park Dr., 7000 block, Nov. 11. A stray dog was reported running loose along a street. An animal control officer found a neutered male beige and white cocker spaniel wearing a collar without tags, and took it to the shelter where it was to be held until claimed or adopted.
Cats and Dogs Need Homes
The Prince George's County SPCA/Humane Society will offer dog and cat adoptions from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, at PETsMART, Gateway Center, 4500 Mitchellville Rd., Bowie. The pets' foster owners will be on hand to answer questions and accept applications. The adoption fee is $190 per dog, $90 per cat.
