4,000+ Over the Limit

Prince George's County high schools are 4,000 students over capacity.

1,273 New Seats

That's all Bill Green, director of pupil enrollment and school boundaries, can expect through 2006-07. During that time, 6,800 more students are expected. No new high schools are expected until the 2006 or 2007, when a 2,600-seat school will be built.

150 Equals 6.2 Percent

Bowie High Principal Suzanne Maxey was spooked the first day of school this fall. Her rolls jumped 6.2 percent, to 2,560, when 150 students "just sort of showed up on our doorstep," she said. "A lot of people who were home-schooled or in private school chose to come to Bowie."

150 Transfers

Gwynn Park will remove 175 students through a massive redistricting plan that will shuffle more than 1,000 students in and out. Also, Principal Mary P. Cunningham said last week that 150 students from outside the district will transfer to her school for magnet programs.
