* Coach: Marcus Lawrence (third year, 11-33).

* Last season: 7-15, 3-3 (lost to Osbourn, 56-37, in Cedar Run District semifinals).

* Returning starters/letter winners: 3/5.

* Outlook: Stonewall is aiming for its first Northwestern Region tournament appearance in recent memory; the only boys' basketball district championship banner that has been displayed in the school's gym is from 1970.

And the Raiders are not simply looking to grab the second berth out of the Cedar Run District. They want the district title.

"I want to beat Potomac," said Lawrence, whose team upset Woodbridge last season but then dropped five of its last six games. "I'm not looking at slipping through the back door. Everybody's trying to beat Potomac, and that's what I want to do. Anything that happens after that we'll assess. I've built this team to try to upset Potomac."

The player who likely would lead that upset is first-team all-district senior guard Tyc Snow, who scored 22 points in Monday's season-opening win after missing the preseason with a foot injury. Senior Onyie Onunaku added 15 points.

Stonewall gives up some size but might have a quickness advantage on some teams. Chris Mpembele and Corey Wheeler had encouraging preseasons, and Adam Woodward should provide perimeter shooting. He hit eight three-pointers in a limited role last year.
