"BEYOND THERAPY"

Lucinda Merry-Browne and Janet Luby hope their new performance group, The Bay Theatre Company, will change the face of theater in Annapolis. The company's weekend performance, "Beyond Therapy" by Christopher Durang, details the life of Bruce, a bisexual who is torn between his live-in lover and his girlfriend. Luby, a former New York actress and associate artistic director of Bay Theatre, said the company hopes to help broaden the local theater scene. "We want to bring people from Washington, D.C., to Annapolis to act in and watch theater. We think this theater company will do that." 8 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Griscom Building, 273 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis. $15. 410-263-6671.

THE PLAY'S THE THING

Learn about 18th- and 19th-century mummers plays during "Mums the Word," a brown-bag lunch lecture sponsored by the Historic Annapolis Foundation. Cliff Long, interpretation coordinator with the Historic Annapolis Foundation, will trace the evolution of these unusual plays as they changed from silent mimes to longer poetic productions. The plays, which started in England, were performed by masked actors, often in wealthy homes, in exchange for food or money. They were typically performed during the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Lecture includes short recitations. Noon, Wednesday. William Paca House and Gardens, 186 Prince George St., Annapolis.
