Tech Park Planned Montgomery County is moving forward with plans for a new life science and technology business park in Germantown that will be modeled after the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center.

Officials recently approved $6.1 million in state and local funds for the purchase of 20 acres adjacent to Montgomery College's Germantown campus. The property, to be combined with existing undeveloped land on the campus, will be used to assemble a 40-acre site for the new life sciences center.

The proposed business park would include about 1 million square feet of research and development space and could attract nearly 4,000 jobs.

In addition, Montgomery College is planning a nearby academic and training facility with classrooms and laboratories for biotechnology, biology and chemistry programs, as well as outside industry training.

Free Cab Rides Free late-night holiday cab rides will be offered in Montgomery County and the Washington area beginning tomorrow until Jan. 2 to help reduce alcohol-related traffic accidents.

Between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. each evening, residents can call 800-200-TAXI (8294) and get a ride for free up to a $50 fare. The annual winter SoberRide program is sponsored by the Washington Regional Alcohol Program.
