Golfer of the Year

Brian Carneal, Northeast, Sr.

Carneal is one of the Washington area's longest hitters, with drives routinely longer than 300 yards. He captured the Maryland state championship at Clustered Spires with a 4-under 68. He was runner-up by one stroke at the county championships (75) and tied for second at the District 5 championships (72).

Coach of the Year

Bruce Bowen, South River

In the season-ending Anne Arundel County championships at Eisenhower, Bowen guided South River to a seven-stoke victory over regular season champion Severna Park with a four-player score of 320. At that match, five of South River's golfers finished among the top 10 in the boys' division.

First Team

Stephanie Connelly, Northeast, Soph.: Connelly, a repeat All-Extra, won the Maryland state championship girls' division (2-over 74) and the county championship girls' division (6-over 78).

David Murnane, Severna Park, Jr.: Murnane finished third at the county championships (76), two strokes behind champion Brian Scott, and tied for second at the District 5 championships (72).

Ray Murphy, Severna Park, Sr.: The four-year varsity golfer was a key factor in the Falcons' regular season title, shooting 79 at the District 5 match to qualify for the Maryland state championships.

Durke Phillips, Old Mill, Jr.: Phillips qualified for his first state championship meet with a 79 at the District 5 match, and tied for 43rd out of 140 golfers at the Maryland state championships with an 81.

Matt Profitt, Severna Park, Sr.: Profitt, a four-year varsity golfer, finished fourth at the county championships (78), four strokes behind the winner, and tied for ninth at state championships with a 76, second-best among Anne Arundel golfers.

Brian Scott, Arundel, Sr.: Scott capped off a stellar career by sinking a clutch 10-foot putt on the 18th hole to win the Anne Arundel County championship (74) by one stroke. He tied for 17th at the state championships with a 77.

Randy Sroka, South River, Sr.: Sroka was a key factor in the Seahawks' seven-stroke victory at the Anne Arundel County championships, shooting a 78 to tie for fourth place. He finished sixth at the 36-hole Anne Arundel County preview tournament in August.
