THE BRILLIANT OUTDOORS

New oil and watercolor paintings of the English countryside are exhibited in Marcia Lynn Toepfer's one-woman show, "Seasonal Splendor." Toepfer's work is represented in many private collections as well as military and government offices throughout the region. DARK CLOUDS IN THE SKA

The Independents take an independent approach to ska, adding a horror theme to their songs. The Florence, S.C., group's latest release, "Back From the Grave," boasts Joey Ramone and Daniel Rey (known for work with the Ramones, Misfits and White Zombie) as producers. They can also be heard on the soundtrack of the movie "Hardcore Logo." At the Spotlight, they'll headline a concert with the Suspects, Obscene Pain Syndicate, Savage Remains, Shell Shock and the Brain Invaders. 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
