Teacher charged: A high school teacher in Stafford County has been charged with distributing marijuana and cocaine to a minor. Police say the incidents occurred off school property from March 2001 to November of this year.

Investigators say they involved a 17-year-old student at Colonial Forge High School, where 34-year-old Paul Lerner is a teacher. Lerner faces three felony charges of drug distribution and three misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.


Sigmund enters plea: Prescott W. Sigmund, charged in the July 12 pipe bomb explosion in Northwest Washington that critically injured his half brother, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment yesterday in U.S. District Court in Washington.

A grand jury indictment charged Sigmund, 35, with seven felonies, including assault with intent to kill while armed and malicious disfigurement. Authorities allege that his father, Donald Sigmund, 65, was the intended target.

Arrest in slaying: A 19-year-old Northeast Washington man has been arrested in the shooting death of an 18-year-old man in the 200 block of S Street NW on July 29. Roger Franks, of the 600 block of Rhode Island Avenue NE, is accused of shooting Lawrence Davis. Police said the two had argued shortly before the 4:15 a.m. shooting, then Franks rode away on a bicycle and came back with a gun.


* A Northwest Washington man was found fatally shot late Thursday in the 1300 block of Florida Avenue NE. John Edwards, 39, of the 1400 block of Fairmount Street NW, was found about 10:30 p.m. He had been shot several times and was pronounced dead an hour later. Another victim, a 33-year-old Northwest man, was shot in the leg and survived.
