Empty-Nest Syndrome Upper Marlboro, Eyre Drive South, 3600 block, Dec. 20. Responding to a homeowner's call about a bat nesting under a stairwell, a control officer determined that the "bat" was a crumpled plastic trash bag.
Wandering Shepherds Impounded Brandywine, Croom Rd., 18600 block, Dec. 20. Responding to a call about a black and brown mixed shepherd wandering on private property, an Animal Management officer took the dog to the shelter. The dog's owner was charged fines totaling $95: a $25 unaltered dog license fee, a $60 redemption fee and a $10 board fee.
Beltsville, Briggs Chaney Rd., 4000 block, Dec. 20. Responding to a call about a brown and white dog in the front yard of a residence, an Animal Management officer took it to the shelter. The owners of the adult male mixed Australian shepherd were charged fines totaling $110: a $60 redemption fee, a $25 unaltered dog license fee and a $25 fee for another dog that required a license.
Lab No Longer At Large Lanham, Lanham Severn Rd., 10200 block, Dec. 20. A mixed yellow Labrador was found on private property and placed in a box stall in a barn. A control officer took the dog to the shelter. The owners were charged fines totaling $80: a $5 altered dog license fee, a $15 redemption fee, a $10 board fee and $50 fine for a running-at-large violation.
Weak Great Dane Given Shelter Glendale, Ranson Ct., 12500 block, Dec. 20. A homeowner found a large Great Dane sitting on the front steps of a residence. The dog, which appeared emaciated, remained on the steps throughout the evening. The next day, a control officer determined that the dog was in fair condition, and took it to the shelter for further evaluation.
Opossum Disappears Capitol Heights, Torrance Ave., 1700 block, Dec. 20. Animal Management was called about an opossum in a trash can at a residence. A control officer reported that all the trash cans were devoid of any opossums.
Evicted Cats Rescued Landover, Allendale Ct., 1900 block, Dec. 20. Police at the scene of an eviction found several cats and contacted Animal Management for assistance. An 8-month-old female, a 1-year-old male and two kittens, each approximately 8 weeks old, were taken to the the shelter.
Pets Available for Adoption
The Prince George's County SPCA/Humane Society will offer dog and cat adoptions from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at PETsMART, Gateway Center, 4500 Mitchellville Rd., Bowie. The pets' foster owners will be on hand to answer questions and accept applications. The adoption fee is $190 per dog, $90 per cat.
