Cabdriver stabbed: A cabdriver was stabbed Sunday night by a man he picked up at the Rockville Metro station and drove to Westfield Shoppingtown mall in Wheaton, Montgomery County police said yesterday.
The cabdriver told police that the attacker grabbed his neck and demanded money. In the struggle, the assailant stabbed the driver in the face and neck, took his wallet and fled, police said. The driver was treated at a hospital and released.
The attacker was described as a 21-year-old Asian man, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and 110 pounds, wearing a dark knit cap and black leather jacket. He had told the driver he was staying in the Rockville area. Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Solvers at 800-673-2777.
Sex abuse charge: A Prince George's County man who by trade is a professional clown was arrested and charged Friday with sexually assaulting a teenage girl, authorities said yesterday.
Lt. Rob Shaw of the Cheverly police said Alphonso L. Pittman, known as "Fonzie the Clown," was charged with the third-degree sex offense against a 15-year-old girl, whom he allegedly fondled in his Cheverly house Wednesday. Authorities said Pittman, 41, was released late Friday on a $35,000 bond.
According to court documents, Friday's arrest was not Pittman's first: In 1998, he was charged with molesting a 13-year-old girl at his home; the case against him was dropped that year. And in 1997, Pittman's wife accused him of assaulting her. Those charges also were dropped.
Victims identified: D.C. police yesterday released the names of the victims of a fatal double stabbing in Petworth early Sunday.
Fred Woods, 42, and Sheron Johnson, 55, whose name was previously given as Sharon, lived in the 4400 block of Illinois Avenue NW. Police say they apparently were stabbed in that block -- though Woods fled to the nearby 500 block of Allison Street NW before collapsing.
