Rabid Fox Hurled Away From Dog
Sereno Ct., 1600 block, 6 p.m. Dec. 28. A female grabbed a fox by the tail and threw it after it attacked her father's dog in their yard. Animal control officers found the fox in the front yard and euthanized it. Lab results indicated it had rabies.
The dog received a rabies booster shot and was placed under a 90-day quarantine at home. The dog owner's daughter was expected to receive post-exposure rabies inoculations.

Squirrel Freed From Chimney
Sharon Ct., 9800 block, Jan. 2. A woman reported that she had been hearing an animal in her chimney for a couple of days, and an animal control officer found that a squirrel had fallen down the chimney and was trapped. The damper was removed, and the squirrel escaped through the fireplace and out an open door.
