* The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia needs volunteers to become tutors for adults in the English as a second language or basic literacy programs. * World Heritage is seeking host families for high schools boys and girls from Spain, France, Germany, Thailand, Great Britain, Japan, Mexico and Brazil through the World Heritage International Student Exchange Program. Host families provide room, board and guidance for the student. Couples, single parents and families with and without children in the home are encouraged to apply. * The U.S. Capitol Guide Service needs volunteers to assist in making visitors feel welcome to the Capitol and Washington. A one-year commitment is requested, and attendance at an initial 12-hour training program during February is required. Weekday volunteers work one morning or one afternoon a week. * Community Tax Aid, which provides free tax return preparation for low-income individuals and families, needs volunteers to help fill out tax forms or provide translation assistance. Tax preparation experience is not required, but volunteers must attend training sessions late this month or early February. A commitment of two to three hours a week for three to five weeks during tax season is required. Translators fluent in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, American Sign Language, Arabic, Farsi, French, Korean, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Turkish and Vietnamese and other languages are needed.
