The Montgomery County Volunteer & Community Service Center seeks volunteers for the following organizations:

Solar Household Energy Inc., a nonprofit that promotes the use of solar cooking technology in developing countries, seeks a volunteer accountant to maintain the organization's financial records. Advisory ability is important. Hours are flexible.

Manna Food Center, which collects and distributes food to needy families and organizations, seeks a volunteer client relations assistant to answer phones, take referrals from agencies and provide information about Manna.

The Association of Partners for Public Lands, which supports the nation's parks, public lands and historic sites, seeks volunteer office assistants. Basic office skills are required.

The Pets on Wheels Program of the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County seeks a volunteer grants assistant. Duties include researching on the Internet, contacting companies and assisting in writing proposals.

The Rockville Relay For Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society, will hold a kickoff party Jan. 29 to provide information on how to register a team and tips on recruitment, motivation and fundraising. Preregistration is required by Jan. 25. Call Kate Allen at 301-933-9350.

The Montgomery Hospice Care Team provides support to patients and families coping with illness and loss. Volunteers serve as companions and caregivers, counsel bereaved family members or help with community events, administration and logistics. Boards and Commissions

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applications to fill vacancies on the following commissions, committees and boards:

Victim Services Advisory Board has four vacancies, three for at-large members and one for a member of the clergy.

Silver Spring Transportation System Management Advisory Committee has three vacancies. Two must be filled by nominees of the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board (one for a resident of the Silver Spring central business district and one for a resident of the north and western Silver Spring sector plan), and the remaining vacancy is for a large-business representative (50 or more employees).

Cable Compliance Commission, a new commission, has five vacancies. Commission members should include a cable television service subscriber; a broadband Internet service subscriber; an individual with general business experience; and an individual with technical experience in communications. All applicants are required to file a limited public financial disclosure statement regarding any communication-related activities and interests and a full confidential financial disclosure statement.
