Temple Hills slaying: A 39-year-old Temple Hills man was found shot to death on a neighborhood street early yesterday, Prince George's County police said.

The man, identified as Robert J. Edwards of the 3000 block of Branch Avenue, was found about 4 a.m. in the 2700 block of Lewis Avenue. Police said he had been shot more than once. Police said the shooting was the second homicide reported in the county this year. They asked anyone with information to call the department's Crime Solvers at 301-735-1111.

Woman attacked at home: A woman was sexually assaulted yesterday in her Landover Hills home by a man who came to the doorway of her bedroom about 1 p.m. and showed a handgun, Prince George's County police said.

Police said the man was described as a black male, about 6 feet tall and of medium build, who had a stocking cap pulled over his face and wore a gray shirt and blue jeans.


Man fatally wounded: A 22-year-old Dale City man was fatally wounded in his house Thursday night by a shot apparently fired from outside, Prince William County police said.

Police said the man, Maurice McKoy, died at Inova Fairfax Hospital yesterday. They said he was hit by a shot through a side window at a townhouse in the 14400 block of Belvedere Drive, where he rents a room. According to police, the shooting may have stemmed from a personal dispute.

The killing was the county's second this year.

Jewel scam alleged: The owner of a Harrisonburg jewelry store was arrested in Northern Virginia in connection with an attempt to sell what was inaccurately described as a 73-carat diamond to U.S. Customs Service agents, the Customs Service said yesterday.

The Customs Service said Yee Wai Yam, 41, owner of the It's About Time jewelry store, was arrested Wednesday near Dulles International Airport on a Virginia charge of attempted grand larceny by false pretense. He was released on bond.

According to the Customs Service, the item in question originally had been purchased for about $125.
