Following is a list of events in Montgomery County marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Takoma Artist Guild and the Takoma Park Department of Recreation will present five "I Have a Dream" art workshops to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s ideals. 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Takoma Park Municipal Building, 7300 Maple Ave., Takoma Park. Free. 301-622-3393.
The Montgomery County Volunteer Center has planned two community service projects to continue King's legacy of service. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday. 240-777-2600. They are:
* Viers Mill Elementary School, 11711 Joseph Mill Rd., Silver Spring. Building and decorating bulletin boards for classrooms, painting, making crafts for the Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health, and making Valentine's Day cards for residents at local nursing homes. Projects can be established for groups.
* The Manna Food Center, 614 Loftstrand Lane, Rockville. Packing and sorting food for distribution to needy people throughout Montgomery County.
The City of Rockville presents "Living the Dream: Stories of the Civil Rights Movement in Rockville: A Multimedia Event," featuring stories of the civil rights struggle in Rockville told through photographs, film and live speakers. Montgomery County presents its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, featuring Harold A. Carter, pastor of New Shiloh Baptist Church in Baltimore.
