At Long Reach High,
A Tribute to King
An 18th annual tribute to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Long Reach High School auditorium, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane, Columbia.
The free event will feature Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) as keynote speaker, with opening remarks by County Executive James N. Robey (D). Mindy Basera of WBAL TV-11 in Baltimore will be the emcee.
This year's theme will be "Guided by His Message, United by His Dream." During the celebration, middle and high school students will be honored for their achievement in leadership, community service and academics.
Musical entertainment and refreshments will be provided.
Final Session Slated
On Hobbit's Glen
The Columbia Association will hold a final meeting to discuss the recommendations for proposed improvements to the Hobbit's Glen Golf Course.
The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kahler Hall in Harper's Choice, 5440 Old Tucker Row, Columbia.

Howard Community College will hold an orientation for new students and their parents from 9 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Tuesday and 6 to 9:10 p.m. next Thursday. First-time students and parents are encouraged to attend.
The sessions will include refreshments, information packets, interactive workshops and campus tours. They will be held in the Smith Theatre in the Science and Technology Building, 10901 Little Patuxent Pkwy., Columbia.

Seeks Public Input
The Howard County delegation to the Maryland General Assembly will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Dr., Ellicott City.
The session will focus on statewide issues and local legislation that would increase the property transfer tax from 1 percent to 1.5 percent to help finance school construction and renovation.
