Homicide victim identified: The man who was fatally shot Wednesday night after arguing with another man in the parking lot of a Silver Spring apartment complex has been identified as Efil M. Jackson, Montgomery County police said.
Jackson, 27, of no fixed address, was shot several times in the 8700 block of Bradford Road in the Highland View neighborhood about 6:22 p.m., police said.
Murder indictment: A man was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury yesterday in the slaying of his mother, who was found dead in her Wheaton living room.
Walter Moises Marquez, 42, of no fixed address, was charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Esperanza Marquez, 75, police said. Another son discovered her body on Dec. 21 on the living room floor, and Walter Marquez was sitting on the couch watching television, police said.
Walter Marquez had told his brother that their mother had fallen down the stairs. Authorities said that an autopsy showed that she had died of blunt-force trauma to the head.
Shooting in Fairfax: A 19-year-old Fairfax County man was shot yesterday morning after he stopped his car in a cul-de-sac in Great Falls, county police said.
Investigators said the victim, whose identity they are not releasing, was on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway about 8:30 a.m. when he became tired and exited on Georgetown Pike to hand over driving duties to his passenger.
Police said the victim followed the road to Linganore Drive, where he stopped and left the car before he was shot in the lower body. Investigators said the man got back in the car and drove to Georgetown Pike and Old Dominion Drive, where he called police. He was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was treated and released. Police said that neither the driver nor the passenger could say where the bullet came from.
