Reopening Festivities

For Columbia Archives

The reopening celebration for the Columbia Archives will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. next Thursday at its new location in the American City Building, 10227 Wincopin Cir., Columbia. The archives recently moved from the nearby Columbia Association headquarters.

The free event, which is open to the public, will feature refreshments and entertainment. Opening remarks from CA President Maggie Brown and archives manager Barbara Kellner will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

Irish Music, Poetry

The Howard County Poetry and Literature Society is hosting the 25th Evening of Irish Music and Poetry at 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at the James Rouse Theatre, 5460 Trumpeter Rd., Columbia. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.

Irish poet Ciaran Carson will read his poetry. Dominick Murray, Grace Griffith, Jesse Winch, Terry Winch, Linda Hickman and Tony DeMarco, who are musicians and singers, will provide traditional Irish music for a performance by Maura Hodgetts and Shane Kelley, championship step dancers.

Artists Sought

For Showcase

The Howard County Arts Council is accepting registration for its annual Performing Arts Showcase on Feb. 27 and 28, presented in partnership with the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association.

Wellness Meetings

For Women Scheduled

The River Hill Wellness Center will offer women's wellness gatherings the third Sunday of every month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. starting in February.

Practitioners at the center will speak at the Feb. 16 session about message therapy, acupuncture, homeopathy and other topics.

Biological Terrorism

Focus of HCC Class

A noncredit class about biological terrorism will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Hickory Ridge Building at Howard Community College.

The class will focus on the classical agents of biological warfare, the ways terrorists use them and emergency responses.

The instructor will be Mohamed A. Mughal, who has more than 17 years of research and technical expertise in the field and has presented conferences nationwide, including at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
