MARYLAND

2 charged in robberies: Two District men working as security guards at a Prince George's County apartment complex were arrested this week on various charges after residents accused the pair of robbing them, authorities said yesterday.

Prince George's police said the men -- Michael L. Bennett, 39, and Russell E. Pervis, 36, both of Northeast Washington -- each were charged in four robberies from Dec. 31 to Jan. 17 in the 6300 and 5300 blocks of Quincy Place. Bennett was being held yesterday on a $35,000 bond at the county detention center; Pervis was being held on a $50,000 bond.

Police said that during each incident, two men, wearing uniforms and badges and carrying walkie-talkies, would force the victims, who were all Hispanic, to place their hands on a wall or car and would frisk them and take money from them. In some cases, police said, the men told victims that they would report them to the Immigration and Naturalization Service if they called authorities.

Police are seeking a third man, Reginald Mark Grant, 25, of Seat Pleasant. Anyone who has information about Grant or who might have been robbed is asked to call Detective Marcos Rodriguez at 301-699-2620 or the department's Crime Solvers at 301-735-1111.
