Two More Sessions
In Parenting Series
HC DrugFree, a nonprofit organization of parents, educators and community members, is offering two more programs for parents and students as part of its Issues in Parenting series.
"Teen Dating and Sexuality" will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. todays at Centennial High School, 4300 Centennial Lane in Ellicott City. During the same time next Thursday , author Brad E. Sachs will discuss his book "The Good Enough Child: How to Have an Imperfect Family and Be Perfectly Satisfied." That session will be at Wilde Lake High School, 5460 Trumpeter Rd. in Columbia
Invited to Reception
An open house will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday for Howard County residents living in District 13, represented by state Sen. Sandra B. Schrader (R). The event will be held at the West 1 Miller Senate Building, 11 Bladen St. in Annapolis. It is free and will feature a reception and tours of the Miller and James Senate office buildings. Evening in the Stacks
Celebrates Mardi Gras
The sixth annual Evening in the Stacks hosted by the Howard County Library will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Feb. 22 at the East Columbia Library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, Columbia. This year's theme is "Mardi Gras." The evening will include readings and discussions by Maryland authors and poets, a silent auction, strolling entertainers, music by the Last Chance Jazz Band and Louisiana-style cuisine from the Elkridge Furnace Inn. Tickets cost $60 a person and can be purchased at any county library branch or by calling 410-313-7750. Proceeds will benefit the library's education and literacy initiatives and the Maryland Center for the Book.
Workshop to Address
Safe Drinking Water
The League of Women Voters of Howard County is sponsoring a workshop, "A Precious Resource: Learn About Safe Drinking Water." State and county experts will address questions such as who provides drinking water, how sustainable is it and how is it being kept safe.
The event, which is free, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the county's Department of Recreation and Parks headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Rd. in Columbia. For more information, call the League of Women Voters at 410-730-0142.
