Driving Hot Spots

Following is a selection of construction projects and road closures for the coming week.

1. Springfield interchange:

Two or more lanes may close from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

2. Bladensburg Road NE:

Lane closures from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays and possibly Saturday between Douglas Street and New York Avenue.

3. Foxhall Road NW:

Lane closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. between W Street and Foxhall Crescent Drive.

4. 16th Street NW:

Lane closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Alaska Avenue and Primrose Road.

5. Anacostia Freeway:

Non-rush-hour, intermittent lane closures daily between the District line and Chesapeake Street SW.

6. 31st Street NW:

Curb lane closed on bridge over C&O Canal.

7. Mount Vernon Place NW:

Closed between Seventh and Ninth streets.

8. Chesapeake Bay Bridge:

Left lane of the westbound span closed 24 hours a day; center lane closed during nighttime hours beginning in the area of Route 8.

Transit Update

Metro: Metro patrons can now receive free e-mail alerts on their cell phones, hand-helds, pagers or other e-mail compatible devices. Customers can request which lines, days of the week and times they want to monitor. Sign up via Metro's Web site, www.metroopensdoors.com. Some Internet service providers and pager companies may charge a per-message fee.

Tip of the Week

Metro has approved public hearings to consider the possibility of raising fares. Hearings will be held between Feb. 24 and March 13. A complete schedule of the dates, times and places is available on Metro's Web site, at www.wmata.com/about/MET_NEWS/ 200301/pr_fareproposal.cfm
