Driving Hot Spots
Following is a selection of construction projects and road closures for the coming week.
1. Springfield interchange:
Two or more lanes may be closed from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
2. Bladensburg Road NE:
Lanes will be closed during non-rush-hour times weekdays and possibly Saturdays from Mount Olivet Road to New York Avenue through June 2004. Curb parking will be prohibited.
3. Foxhall Road NW:
Lane closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. between W Street and Foxhall Crescent Drive.
4. 16th Street NW:
Lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Alaska Avenue and Primrose Road.
5. Anacostia Freeway:
Non-rush-hour, intermittent lane closures will be in effect daily between the Maryland-District line and Chesapeake Street SW.
6. Interstate 295:
A new traffic pattern has begun on Interstate 295 South. Traffic is being diverted onto the new northbound I-295 ramp.
7. Chesapeake Bay Bridge:
The left lane of the westbound span will be closed 24 hours a day; the center lane will be closed during nighttime hours beginning in the area of Route 8.
8. North Waterside Drive:
Closed from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday from Massachusetts Avenue to Rock Creek Parkway.
9. Capital Beltway, outer loop:
Exit ramp 2A-B will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Fridays through March 18. Route 210 traffic will use Exit 3A, Route 210 South, or Exit 3B, Route 210 North. I-295 traffic will use exit 3B, which will allow drivers to loop back to I-95 South and then to I-295 North.
MARC: The Point of Rocks overflow lot will go into service Monday. Frederick TransIT will provide shuttle service for the last two morning trains and all evening trains.
Tip of the Week
The District raised parking violation fines last week. The fine for four parking violations rose from $20 to $30. The fine for an expired meter went from $15 to $25. The fine for parking a bus, commercial vehicle or sightseeing vehicle in front of a residence or other restricted space increased from $20 to $500.
