Bluegrass Festival

To Benefit Hospice

A bluegrass festival on Saturdaywill benefit Hospice of St. Mary's. The music will begin at 2 p.m. and last until 8 p.m. at the Valley Lee firehouse.

Performers will include Charlie Thompson and the Bottom County Bluegrass Band, Bubbly Abell and the Spool Creek Band, Bluegrass Gospel Express, Jack Tippett Band and Recent Edition.

Auditions Set Today

For 'Guys and Dolls'

The Port Tobacco Players group is holding auditions this week for a summer production of the musical "Guys and Dolls." There is a session today at 7 p.m. at Mattawoman Middle School in Waldorf. Performances will be presented July 11 through 27 at the Charles County Government Center auditorium in La Plata.

'Barefoot in the Park'

Planned for June in Waldorf

The second annual Charles County Home and Garden Show is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 21 and 22 at Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf.

Calvert Students' Art

Displayed in Annapolis

A photographic exhibit, "The World Through My Window," featuring photos from fifth-graders at Mutual Elementary School in Calvert County is on display through April 1 at the State House in Annapolis.

The students were asked to photograph the natural environment -- things they encounter every day. Art teacher Beth Beighly worked with the students to create photo journals that include the youngsters' thoughts about their photographs. The exhibit is sponsored by the American Chestnut Land Trust.

To Benefit Hospice

The Friends of Hospice Foundation will raffle two 2003 Bombardier Sea Doo personal watercraft on a dual trailer to benefit Hospice of Charles County. The machines will be on display at various locations through the end of June.

Graduation Times Change

For Three High Schools

The Charles County public schools recently announced changes in the times for graduation ceremonies for three of the county's high schools.

Ceremonies that are scheduled on June 3 and their new times are: Thomas Stone, 9 a.m.; Maurice J. McDonough, 2 p.m.; and Henry E. Lackey, 7 p.m. Starting times for June 4 ceremonies are unchanged: La Plata, 9:30 a.m., and Westlake, 2:30 p.m.

St. Maries Musica, a long established group of 20 singers, is seeking male singers -- bass, bariton and tenor.

Group Becomes Full Member

In Points of Light Foundation

Volunteer Southern Maryland at the College of Southern Maryland has been awarded full membership with the Points of Light Foundation in Washington.

To become a member, VSM was evaluated in four major areas: how the center connects people with opportunities to serve, how it builds capacity for effective local volunteering, how it promotes volunteerism and how it participates in strategic initiatives to mobilize volunteers.

The foundation was founded in 1990 by former president George Bush.
