Arundel Wildcats

Head Coach: Ed Clear, second year.

Last Year: 10-6 overall, 9-5; lost in region semis to Broadneck.

Fast Fact: The strength is in the midfield with seniors Colleen Moore, Kristin Sann and sophomore Lauren Clear. The team has six senior starters and is focusing on rebuilding the defense.

Broadneck Bruins

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Karen Tengwall, sixth year.

Last Year: 16-1 overall, undefeated in county; won first state title in school history;

Fast Fact: The state champs return their whole defensive line and starting goalie, senior Melissa Puzak.

Chesapeake Cougars

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Denise Perrone, first year.

Last Year: 7-7 overall, 6-6; lost in second round of playoffs.

Fast Fact: Nine seniors return, including midfielders Rachel Hutchinson and Lynnea Spinnenweber and defender Michelle Mullen.

Glen Burnie Gophers

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Bill Held, second year.

Last Year: 2-10 overall, 1-10; lost in first round of playoffs.

Fast Fact: Last year the Gophers didn't have any reserves, but with 21 girls on varsity and a full junior varsity squad, the program has the experience to improve.

Meade Mustangs

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Matt Reed, first year.

Last Year: 2-11 overall, 0-11; lost in first round of playoffs.

Fast Fact: The Mustangs are looking for their first county win under the slogan "Patience, persistence and pride." Senior defenders Michelle Laredo and Jessica Jones are two of the more experienced players.

North County Knights

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Tracy Crane, first year.

Last Year: N/A.

Fast Fact: Three seniors -- defenders Diana Murphy, Danielle Muller and goalie Kerrie DeSanctis -- lead an inexperienced team.

Northeast Eagles

Classification: 3A/2A.

Head Coach: Kathy Lewis, fifth year.

Last Year: 4-9 overall; lost in first round of playoffs.

Fast Fact: Senior midfielders Odessa Armstrong and Jenn Marshal will be the go-to players, and the Eagles have a solid defense.

Old Mill Patriots

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Vern Hines, third year.

Last Year: 8-7 overall, 5-5; lost in first round of region tournament.

Fast Fact: Senior midfielder Kim Evans led the team with 21 goals and 23 assists, and the team is looking for school-record nine wins.

Severna Park Falcons

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Carin Peterson, 14th year.

Last Year: 12-2 overall, 11-1; lost to Broadneck in region final.

Fast Fact: Seniors are in key positions, and junior defensive midfielder Zara Nematallohi also can play attack.

South River Seahawks

Classification: 4A/3A.

Head Coach: Kim McNemar, fourth year.

Last Year: 11-4 overall, 9-2; lost to Severna Park in region semifinals.

Fast Fact: With 15 returning players, including 11 starters, the Seahawks are a favorite. Senior defender Sarah Carter was accepted to Yale but committed to play Division I at Davidson.

Southern Bulldogs

Classification: 2A/1A.

Head Coach: Linda Kilpatrick, 14th year.

Last Year: 9-8 overall, 5-8; lost in state championship to Hereford.

Fast Fact: Junior Melissa Line and sophomore Brittany Washko are expected to score, and junior goalie Amanda Church is making the transition from junior varsity.

Private Schools

Spalding Cavaliers

Classification: IAAM B.

Head Coach: Dana Rigot.

Last Year: 12-5-2 overall, 6-1-2; lost to Seton Keough in championship.

Fast Fact: Junior Caitlin Swift scored 73 points (42 goals, 31 assists) last year, and senior Nikki Schiavone is a two-year starter on defense. The team is working to move up to the A Conference next year.

Severn Admirals

Classification: IAAM A.

Head Coach: Renie Sotiropoulos, eighth year.

Last Year: 13-5-2 overall, 10-4-1; lost in tournament quarterfinals.

Fast Fact: The entire offense is back, and junior Jess Adam and senior Molly Dodson bring veteran leadership.

St. Mary's Saints

Head Coach: Sue Chittim, first year.

Last Year: 9-9-3 overall, 3-7-2.

Fast Fact: Leading returning scorer is Johns Hopkins-bound senior attack Mary Key, who finished with 41 goals and 26 assists last season.
