Jared Fagan, Westlake, Junior
The SMAC champion in the 55-meter dash was the Maryland 3A/2A East Region runner-up in that event at 6.3 seconds. He also anchored the Wolverines' 4x200-meter relay team, which placed an area-best fourth at the regional meet.
Dean Lee, McDonough, Senior
A two-time All-Extra selection, Lee was the SMAC champion in the 300-meter (35.6) and 500-meter (1:07.80) dashes. He placed third in the 300 and second in the 500 at the Maryland 3A/2A East Region meet, and third in both events at the state final.
Rob Lester, Westlake, Senior
The area's best long and triple jumper had to prove it during the regular season because neither event was contested in the SMAC, region or state meets. He set a personal-best mark of 44 feet 8 inches in the triple jump, the 18th longest in the nation.
Tim Minor, McDonough, Senior
The SMAC and Maryland 3A/2A East Region runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles (7.70) also placed fourth in that event at the state championships.
Ryan Murphy, Northern, Junior
Murphy was the SMAC and Maryland 3A/2A East Region champion in the 1,600-meter run at 4:36.60. He also won the regional title in the 800-meter run at 2:06.50. Murphy placed third in both events at the state meet.
Delannie Spriggs, Northern, Senior
Spriggs was the Maryland 3A/2A runner-up in the 55-meter dash (6.60). He also was the SMAC champion and 3A/2A East Region runner-up in the high jump and placed sixth at the state meet in the high jump at 5 feet 10 inches.
Travis Wray, La Plata, Junior
The SMAC and 3A/2A East Region champion in the 3,200-meter run finished third at the state meet in that event. Wray also was part of the Warriors' 4x800-meter relay team that set a SMAC record of 8:31 and went on to capture the regional title.

Performer of the Year
T.J. Foley, Patuxent, Senior
The Southern Maryland Athletic Conference's lone state champion this indoor season is a first-time All-Extra selection for indoor track. Foley captured the Maryland 4A/3A title in the shot put with a career-best throw of 58 feet 41/2 inches, topping his previous best by more than three feet. He has accepted a scholarship to play football next season at Towson University.
Coach of the Year
Vickie Murphy, Northern
Murphy, a third-year coach, led the Patriots' boys to a second-place finish in the SMAC and an area-best second-place showing in the Maryland 3A/2A East Region championships. Northern also placed sixth at the state meet. Last season the Patriots had just one individual boy qualify for the state meet; this season four individuals qualified in six events. Murphy was a three-time All-American at Villanova University and the Big East champion in the 1,500-meter run.
