Performer of the Year

Casey Gillingham, Leonardtown, Senior

A two-time All-Extra selection, Gillingham was the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference's lone girls' state champion this indoor season. She cleared 10 feet in the pole vault at the Maryland 3A/2A meet to win the crown. Gillingham also was the Maryland 3A/2A East Region champion in both pole vault (10-0) and high jump (5-4). She went on to record a fourth-place tie in the high jump at the state meet.

Coach of the Year

Beth Shook, Westlake

In her first season as the Wolverines' indoor coach, Shook led the girls to an 81-66 victory over second-place McDonough in the SMAC championships. Westlake went on to claim fourth place in the Maryland 3A/2A East Region and had three individual girls and one relay team qualify for the state meet. Shook also heads the girls' outdoor team, which finished 10-1 in the SMAC last season and captured its second consecutive Maryland 3A South Region title.

First Team

Amy Bilmanis, Thomas Stone, Sophomore

A two-time All-Extra pick, Bilmanis was the SMAC and Maryland 4A/3A East Region champion in the shot put at 36 feet 113/4 inches. She also finished as the Maryland 4A/3A runner-up with a throw of 37-101/4.

JaQuay Evans, Westlake, Junior

A two-time All-Extra selection, Evans was the SMAC champion in the 55-meter dash at 7.54 seconds and anchored the Wolverines' championship 4x200-meter relay team. Westlake's 4x200 team went on to place third at the Maryland 3A/2A East Region meet and fifth at states.

Sarah Fullerton, McDonough, Sophomore

The Maryland 3A/2A East Region champion in the 1,600-meter (5:35.00) and 3,200-meter (12:15.90) runs, Fullerton also placed second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600 at the SMAC championships.

Kelly Ennis, Leonardtown, Senior

A two-time All-Extra selection, Ennis set SMAC records in the 300-meter (41.10) and 500-meter (1:22.20) runs. She placed third in the 300 at the Maryland 3A/2A East Region and state meets, and finished 12th overall in the 200 at the Nike Indoor Championships.

Susan Hendrick, Patuxent, Senior

A two-time All-Extra honoree, Hendrick was the Maryland 4A/3A East Region champion and state runner-up in the 1,600-meter run in 5:21.07. She placed fourth in the region and third in the state in the 3,200. She also captured SMAC titles in the mile and two-mile, and anchored the Panthers' winning 4x800-meter relay team. Hendrick has committed to Columbia University.

Ashley Owen, Westlake, Junior

Owen set a SMAC record in the 800-meter run at 2:28.30. She placed second in that event at the Maryland 3A/2A East Region meet and third at states. Owen also was a member of the Wolverines' SMAC champion 4x400 relay team.

Aajah Showell, McDonough, Senior

Showell, a two-time All-Extra pick, was the Maryland 3A/2A East Region champion in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50) and regional runner-up in the high jump at 5-0. The SMAC champion in both events went on to place second at the state meet in the 55 hurdles and tied for fourth in the high jump.
