Kid-Oriented Concerts

At McLean Theater

Children's musicians Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer will perform at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. April 26 at the Alden Theatre in the McLean Community Center.

Their performances feature silly songs and family singalongs.

Fink and Marxer will release their 14th recording, "Bon Appetit! Musical Food Fun," at the concerts. The CD celebrates healthy eating, healthy kids and the fun of food.

The Washington Pan Masters, a steel orchestra, and the University Park Children's Ensemble will also perform at the concerts.

For Literacy's Sake

The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia will host "A Taste of Literacy: A Celebration of International Culture and Cuisine" from 6:30 to 10 p.m. April 25 at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in Ballston.

The event is the largest fundraiser for the council, a nonprofit educational organization serving adults in Fairfax and Arlington counties as well as the cities of Falls Church and Alexandria.

There will be a silent auction, live entertainment and food. Admission includes beer, wine and samplings of international cuisine from local restaurants.

Ballet Ensemble Picked

For Regional Group

The Center for Ballet Arts ensemble of Fairfax has been invited to join the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association. It is the only dance company in Northern Virginia to be invited by the association, the largest of five chapters of Regional Dance America.

The ensemble will perform at the association's annual festival Tuesday through April 26in Roanoke with a contemporary pointe piece called "Ole."

Get Help in Writing

A Personal History

The Vienna Community Center will host its third annual Writing Your Personal History symposium from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 8.

The class features a session on a writer's voice, writing activities that tap into memories and creativity, a PowerPoint presentation using photographs to enhance memoirs, editing tips and support from members of two ongoing personal history writing classes.

The League of Reston Artists is presenting a judged fine-arts exhibition for members only at the Reston Community Center's Jo Ann Rose Gallery at Lake Anne through May 4.
