SEXUAL ASSAULTS

WILLSTON DR., 6100 block, 5 p.m. April 30. Two police officers on bike patrol heard a woman screaming in a laundry room of an apartment building. The officers forced a locked door open and discovered that she had been sexually assaulted and stabbed in the hand. Bystanders directed the police to a suspect. A Seven Corners area man was charged with rape, abduction with intent to defile, forcible sodomy and malicious wounding. The woman was treated at a hospital.

ROBBERIES

ARLINGTON BLVD., 7200 block, 9:15 p.m. April 29. A man grabbed a 37-year-old man working at a parking lot and tried to reach into his pocket to get cash. The victim pushed the man away and ran into a business. The man fled in a car.

THEFTS/BREAK-INS

CHAIN BRIDGE RD., 1400 block. Gas was stolen from a service station.

CHAIN BRIDGE RD., 1900 block, 5:45 p.m. May 2. A check of the registration of a 2003 Ford van parked in a restricted area at a mall revealed that the van had been reported stolen from Prince Georges County, Maryland. Police arrested a man who came out of the mall and loaded merchandise into the van. An investigation revealed that the merchandise had been stolen from several businesses. A 41-year-old District man was charged with grand theft, petty theft, possession of burglary tools and possession of an item to shield security devices.

ASSAULTS

RESTON AREA, March 25. A cabdriver was charged in connection with an assault of a 16-year-old girl. The man asked the girl to sit in the front seat of his taxi as he drove her to a location in Fairfax City. During the ride, he sexually assaulted her. A 39-year-old Fairfax area man was charged with simple assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

PICKETT RD., 4100 block, 2:30 p.m. May 3. A man asked for directions to a nearby location from a 13-year-old girl walking behind a middle school. The girl walked away when he asked her to go to that location with him, and he tried to grab her. She continued to walk, and he left on foot.

SYDENSTRICKER RD., 6800 block, May 2 to May 4. Derogatory words were spray-painted on the walls of an elementary school. A window at the school was also damaged, and a small fire was found on a concrete patio.

BEVAN DR., 3800 block, April 29 to May 1. A black Tomos moped was stolen from a residence. It was found later in a ditch on Walnut and First streets.

FOREST AVE., 10400 block, April 16 to April 23. An unsuccessful attempt was made to enter a residence.

JERMANTOWN RD., 4000 block, 5:43 p.m. May 1. A male was stopped as he attempted to leave a store after concealing merchandise. A 59-year-old Centreville man was charged with petty theft and public drunkenness.

MAIN ST., 9600 block, 7:15 to 8 p.m. April 26. A cell phone was stolen from a locker in a fitness center.

OAK ST., 3900 block, May 2 to May 3. An unsuccessful attempt was made to enter a building.

OLD LEE HWY., 3200 block, 3 to 4 p.m. May 3. A purse containing several items was stolen.

OLD PICKETT RD., 3200 block, 9:30 p.m. May 1. Cash was stolen from a soda vending machine.

RANGER RD., 10100 block, April 30 to May 1. An orange and yellow Huffy bicycle was stolen from the front yard of a residence.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFTS

MAPLE ST., 10800 block, 12:30 to 4 a.m. May 2. A blue 1986 Jeep Cherokee was stolen from a driveway of a residence. The vehicle was found several hours later on the front lawn of a residence in Fairfax County.

VANDALISM

BEVAN DR., 3700 block, 3 to 6:20 a.m. May 1. A campaign sign was removed from the front lawn of a residence and thrown into the bed of a pickup truck at that address, damaging the paint.

FAIRFAX SQ., 3900 block, May 1. A tire of a vehicle was flattened.

MAIN ST., 10700 block, May 1 to May 3. Door glass in a parking garage was broken.

MOSBY WOODS DR., 10000 block, April 29 to May 2. Graffiti was spray-painted on a sidewalk.

NORTH STREET AND TRURO LANE, 2:12 a.m. May 1. Two gas lamps were damaged.

ELDEN ST., 1100 block, 4:29 a.m. May 2. A person struck a male. No injuries were reported.

ELDEN ST., 1200 block, 10:28 p.m. April 28. A person struck an acquaintance. Both people reportedly had minor injuries.

JONQUIL LANE, 700 block, 3:28 p.m. April 28. A male grabbed a female's chest, then left.

RENEAU WAY, 300 block, 8:29 p.m. May 2. A person kicked a person.

SUMMERFIELD DR., 1300 block, 3 p.m. April 29. A person struck a female acquaintance, who reportedly received minor injuries.

AUTUMNHAZE CT., 1100 block, 2:57 p.m. May 1. A bicycle was stolen from the front yard of a residence.

ELDEN ST., 1200 block, 12:42 p.m. May 1. A male and a female in a vehicle spoke to two people outside a grocery store and said they were store employees and that a theft had just occurred. They asked the pedestrians for identification, and they checked the pedestrians' wallets, then left. The pedestrians then discovered that their cash had been stolen.

ELDEN ST., 400 block, 10:17 a.m. May 2. A man was stopped in a business for allegedly shoplifting. A 43-year-old Herndon man was charged with theft.

ELDEN ST., 400 block, 11:18 a.m. May 1. A man was stopped in a business for allegedly shoplifting. A 19-year-old Springfield man was charged with theft.

ELDEN ST., 400 block, 2:16 p.m. May 1. A woman was stopped in a business for allegedly shoplifting. A 35-year-old Herndon woman was charged with theft.

ELDEN ST., 400 block, 3 p.m. April 26. A man was stopped in a business for allegedly shoplifting. A 25-year-old Herndon man was charged with theft.

ELDEN ST., 400 block, 7:36 p.m. May 2. A man was stopped in a business for allegedly shoplifting. A 26-year-old Reston man was charged with theft.

HERNDON PKWY., 600 block, 4:06 p.m. May 2. A male juvenile took property from an acquaintance. The property was returned. A 12-year-old Herndon boy was released to a parent.

LOCUST ST., 800 block, 5:19 p.m. April 30. A purse and a new pair of shoes were stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

LOCUST ST., 900 block, 5:32 p.m. May 1. A license plate was stolen from a vehicle.

VAN BUREN ST., 700 block, 6:11 p.m. April 29. Gas was stolen from a service station.

MERLINS LANE, 600 block, 8:06 p.m. April 29. A female reported that her vehicle had been stolen. The vehicle had already been recovered after a hit-and-run collision in Reston.

VANDALISM

CYPRESS TREE PL., 1100 block, 3:06 p.m. May 2. Eggs were thrown at a car and a house.

FILLMORE STREET AND DRANESVILLE ROAD, 12:42 p.m. May 2. A stop sign was spray-painted.

GRANT ST., 1300 block, 8:20 a.m. April 27. A male juvenile damaged a phone and other property. A 15-year-old male was charged with destruction of property.

WINDOVER AVE. NW, 300 block, 7 a.m. April 24 to 6 p.m. April 28. Garden shears were stolen from a porch of a residence.

VANDALISM

HARMONY DR. SW, noon April 26 to 8:47 a.m. May 2. A floodlight at a swim club was dismantled and the bulb was broken.

LEWIS ST. NW, 100 block, 6:35 p.m. April 30. Vehicles were driven across a lawn of a residence, damaging it.
