Injured Dog Thrown in Trash Bin
POTOMAC, River Rd., 10000 block, May 3. An employee of a trash disposal company found an injured dog in a commercial trash receptacle and called the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. A Humane Society driver took the dog, a tan-colored male cockapoo, to a veterinary hospital, where it was treated for its injuries. The dog was later taken to the animal shelter, where it was reunited with its owner the next day. Officials believe the dog might have been hit by a vehicle, then thrown in the trash.
Kitten Rescued From Pipe, Adopted
SILVER SPRING, Southampton Dr., 400 block, April 28. A maintenance worker at an apartment complex found a kitten with its head stuck in a drainage pipe and called the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. While a Humane Society driver was en route, one of the complex's maintenance workers cut the pipe, freeing the kitten, and placed the animal in a box. When the driver arrived and opened the box, the kitten, an 8-week-old brown tabby, jumped out and ran behind a soda machine. The kitten was captured and taken to the animal shelter, and was later adopted.
Two Dogs Trap, Kill Cat
GAITHERSBURG, Swallow Ct., 1 to 100 block, April 30. Two dogs, a Labrador mix and a Dalmatian mix, trapped a cat under a deck at a residence and killed it. An Animal Services employee caught the Labrador mix, but could not find the other dog. Three days later, the dogs' owner went to the animal shelter, retrieved the Labrador and paid $87 in fees. The case was continuing.
