Cats Given Up to Shelter
WATERFORD, Charles Town Pike, May 10. An animal control officer was returning to the animal shelter after a nighttime patrol when she saw a man leaving five cats in a crate outside the shelter gate. The man said that the cats had ringworm and that he could not care for them.
Lab Puppy on the Loose
STERLING, Davis Drive, May 12. A woman reported that a black Labrador retriever puppy was running loose and seemed frightened. An animal control officer caught the puppy and took it to the animal shelter, where it was awaiting its owner.
Chihuahua Left in Hot Car
STERLING, Dulles Crossing Plaza, May 13. An animal control officer saw a white Chihuahua panting inside a parked car. The temperature outdoors was 91. The officer waited for the car's owner and issued him a summons to appear in court. In Loudoun County, it is illegal to leave a pet unattended in a vehicle when the temperature outdoors is 70 or higher.
Dog Euthanized After Attack
PURCELLVILLE, Sands Road, May 13. A woman reported that her Labrador retriever mix had attacked a sick raccoon. An animal control officer took the raccoon to the animal shelter, where it was euthanized. The woman took her dog to a veterinarian, but the veterinarian could not administer a rabies booster because the dog's rabies vaccination had expired. The raccoon tested positive for rabies, and the dog had to be euthanized.
Lost Dog Reunited With Owner
LEESBURG, King Street, May 14. A woman reported that she had confined a stray Jack Russell terrier. An animal control officer picked up the dog and matched it with a report of a lost animal filed with the animal shelter. The officer returned the dog to its owner the same day. Pit Bull Abandoned, Woman Says
LEESBURG, Cavell Court, May 18. A woman reported seeing a man push a pit bull mix out of his car and drive away. The woman said the dog was barking and would not move away from her home. Animal control officers caught the dog and took it to the animal shelter. They were investigating the incident as a possible abandonment.
