Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary in Lothian needs volunteers who are willing to get wet to help catch, identify, measure and release fish to monitor the fish populations living in shallow water and wetlands of the Patuxent River from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. South River Federation and the Center for Watershed Protection will conduct a brief training session and then stream assessments in headwater streams that drain into South River, including Bacon Ridge Branch, North River, Bell Branch, Flat Creek and Beards Creek. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the Safeway parking lot in Gateway Village Shopping Center, Defense Highway and Housley Road, Annapolis. Eastport A'Rockin Street Music Festival from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 26 needs individuals, families (with children as young as 9) and groups who can help for one hour or more with early morning setup (tables, chairs, tents), ticket and raffle ticket sales, setting up of bands, traffic direction, cotton candy and the moon bounce. The festival will benefit the Anne Arundel Abuse Counseling Center and Annapolis Maritime Museum. Volunteers will receive free admission and soft drinks or bottled water. Ordnance Road Correctional Center needs volunteers 21 and older, who pass a background check, for book clubs and an art program.
