Inova Fair Oaks Hospital needs volunteers to work in its gift and thrift shop. Volunteers will assist customers, stock shelves, run the cash register and provide other assistance as needed. Other volunteer opportunities include escorting patients, delivering flowers and gift cards, staffing the information desk and providing support in surgical services. Volunteers for Change is holding orientation meetings for people who want to participate in any of more than 40 monthly community service projects throughout Northern Virginia. Projects range from planting trees, bagging food for homeless families, tutoring adult ESL students, playing bingo with the disabled and more. The American Red Cross has volunteer opportunities for a range of ages and interests. Be a Red Cross disaster action team member, a community disaster educator, a certified Red Cross CPR and first-aid class instructor, a youth volunteer, help with administrative tasks or create graphics projects and Web designs. Northern Virginia Family Service's Clock Tower Thrift Shops need help in taking inventory June 28-July 1. There are four shops, in Baileys Crossroads, Falls Church, Sterling and Centreville. Help is also needed throughout the year with sorting, pricing and tagging donated clothing and household items. Must be 13 or older. Small groups are welcome. Celebrate Fairfax! needs volunteers for the county fair June 11-13 to provide exhibitor relations and information to patrons, help with programs in the SciTech and ExxonMobil Children's Avenue, and to take tickets and monitor admission gates. Must be 14 or older. The festival features music, children's activities, a crafts market, a science and technology center, a carnival, county and business expos, food and more.
