Two Stray Dogs Are Caught

SILVER SPRING, Avenel Dr., 1 to 100 block, May 10. A Montgomery County police dispatcher requested assistance from Animal Services to capture two dogs running loose. An animal services officer caught the dogs, a male Rottweiler and a male mastiff, and took them to the shelter to be held for six days, then made available for adoption if not picked up by an owner.

Chickens Run Afoul of the Law

SILVER SPRING, Markham St., 1000 block, May 10. A resident called Animal Services about chickens in a neighbor's yard. Montgomery County law requires that all fowl be kept at least 100 feet from a dwelling. An animal services officer inspected the residence and gave the owner a warning citation. During a follow-up visit, the officers found the chickens in the yard. The owner was fined $100 for creating a public nuisance.

Resident Finds Rabid Raccoon

SILVER SPRING, Fiesta Rd., 10900 block, May 16. A resident found a raccoon in his yard that could not move and appeared to be in pain. He humanely killed it and called the Montgomery County Humane Society to pick up the remains. A humane society employee took it to the shelter for rabies testing. It tested positive for rabies, and the resident was referred to the Montgomery County Health Department for rabies exposure evaluation.

Online Pet Registration

Pet registration applications are available to residents online from the Animal Services Division. All dogs and cats residing in Montgomery County must have a current license from the division. License application must include a record of the vaccination and a rabies certificate.
