Looking for volunteer opportunities? The following organizations need volunteer help for a day, a week or on a regular basis.
Montgomery County public schools need volunteer tutors for Summer Adventures in Learning 2004, an extended learning opportunities program for students entering kindergarten through fifth grade in August. Volunteers must have a desire to work with young children, tutor students in reading, writing and math, and make a four-hour commitment. Hospice Caring, a non-medical, volunteer hospice that provides emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families, needs volunteers to provide patient support and advocacy, respite care, assistance with household tasks and errands, transportation and companionship. The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington needs senior volunteers for computer database entry and research at its Rockville office. Computer training is provided, and flexible hours are available. Call Eytan Gess, 301-348-7308.
Court-Appointed Special Advocate of Montgomery County seeks volunteers to speak for abused and neglected children in court and help them find safe and permanent homes. Forty hours of training is required. Call 301-340-7458 or www.casamontgomery.org.
House of Ruth of Maryland needs volunteers for its Rockville, Upper Marlboro and Hyattsville courthouse offices. Volunteers provide information to victims of domestic violence and assist attorneys. Board of Education seeks applicants for an upcoming vacancy in District 5. The individual will complete the remaining two years of the current term.
