Final on Friday
Who You Know
Broad Run forward Liz Frank is one of the region's most complete players. The Dulles District player of the year has 20 goals and 12 assists for the Spartans.
Fauquier midfielders Amanda Koslow and Noel Straight have each scored 10 goals this season and helped the Falcons claim their fourth straight regular-season title in the AA Northwestern District. "That's where we want to build our attack," Fauquier Coach Daniel Beaver said. "They're the heart of the team; there's no question."
Who You Should Know
Brentsville sophomore forwards Stephanie Hair (17 goals, 10 assists) and Caly Cassady (27 goals) make up arguably the best scoring tandem in the Northwestern District and led the Tigers to the district tournament title.
Who Should Advance
Potomac Falls has reached the Virginia AA final three of the past four years and has the most momentum after handing Broad Run its first loss of the season in the Dulles District final. "We've turned our whole season around, and we've turned all of our attitudes around," Panthers defender Lauren Malan said. "This will really help us going into regionals."
Broad Run and Fauquier could play each other in the other region semifinal, a potential matchup that shows how tough this regional tournament will be to win. "I think it would be very bold for anybody to make any predictions," Beaver said.
Who Could Advance
With the exception of their three games played against district opponent Fauquier, Brentsville is the relative unknown quantity in the Region II field. In their first season at the AA level -- they won the Virginia A title last season -- the Tigers are 16-2-1 and won the Northwestern District tournament title in penalty kicks over Fauquier on Thursday.
