Golf Benefit Slated
Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) of Northern Virginia will host its Eighth Annual SCAN Golf Tournament on Sunday at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton.
All proceeds will go to the work and programs of SCAN, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the well-being of children, the improvement of parent-child relations and the prevention of child abuse and neglect through education, awareness and advocacy.
This year's tournament has a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
In addition to golf, a silent auction will raise funds for SCAN. Donated auction items include golfing at some of the most exclusive courses in the area, weekend getaways, fine dining and more.
Missing Dog Sought
The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is offering a $500 reward for the safe return of a Chihuahua who was stolen from the animal shelter last month.
Jemma, an eight-month-old dog, was taken from the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter at 4101 Eisenhower Ave. between noon and 6 p.m. May 20. She was discovered missing from a fenced run area and has not been seen since.
Police are urging potential witnesses to come forward.
Jemma has black and tan short hair and strongly resembles a miniature pinscher. She weighs about 7 pounds. She recently had surgery and should be seen by a vet.
Though her stitches and shaved areas were visible when she was stolen, they might not be as noticeable now, officials said. Jemma is spayed and has a microchip that can be read by other shelters and many veterinary clinics.
Anyone with information about Jemma's location is asked to call Alexandria police at 703-838-4444 or the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria at 703-838-4774.
