Tunes That Pop
The final Columbia Orchestra concert of the 2003-04 season features music for all ages. Highlights of the "Symphonic Pops" event include the John Williams scores to the first two "Harry Potter" movies, along with the theme songs from cartoons such as "The Flintstones" and "The Jetsons." For adults, there is Duke Ellington's "Three Black Kings," as well as the premiere of Jay Norris's "Three Spirituals." Jazz, Room by Room
The Baltimore-Washington JAZZfest celebrates the 10th anniversary of its House of Jazz event by transforming Historic Oakland into a mansion of music. Rooms will have themes such as "Birdland," "18th and Vine," "Cotton Club" and "Village Vanguard." Performers will include the Winard Harper Quintet, the Ron Kearns Quintet, the Carl Filipiak Group, the James "Saxsmo" Gates Quintet and Saisa. Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. The event is also sponsored by Howard County General Hospital, Verizon, Columbia Bank and WB54. 7-11 p.m. Saturday.
