Teacher Is Honored

George T. George, a social studies teacher, assistant principal and director of extended care at Our Lady of Sorrows School in Takoma Park, has been selected by the Archdiocese of Washington as the Catholic Elementary School Teacher of the Year for Montgomery County.

George, 55, of Silver Spring started a mentoring club for boys in grades five through eight that includes participation in volunteer programs.

The Catholic Elementary School Teacher of the Year for the Archdiocese and for the District is Charles T. Hennessy, a math and computer teacher at Holy Trinity School in Georgetown. Hennessey, 47, lives in Arlington.

Driving Course Offered

Montgomery College is starting a summer program to teach driver education, with the first two-week session beginning June 19.

The course will be taught from

6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weeknights at the college's business training center in Gaithersburg. It will include 30 hours of classroom time, six hours of on-the-road driving instruction and a three-hour orientation session. Registration is underway for each of the summer sessions. Residency Deadline Nears

Tomorrow is the deadline for parents and guardians of eighth-graders to submit documentation verifying their residency in Montgomery County. The school board approved the new requirement to ensure that families are county residents or pay tuition to send their children to county schools.
