of the Year

JOANNE AMOS, Broadneck, Fr.

Steady Level 8 competitor led the Bruins to their second consecutive county championship, finishing second all-around (35.0) and winning the beam title (9.0). At the state championships, Amos placed fifth all-around (35.425), tops among county gymnasts, and third on beam (9.3).

ANDREW PODOLIN, Broadneck, Jr.

National-level Class 1 club gymnast captured all-around at county championships (53.0) and individual titles on pommel horse (9.2), rings (9.6), parallel bars (9.3) and high bar (8.8). Podolin also competed in Junior Olympic Class 1 national championships in San Diego.

Coach of the Year

BERNADETTE ARVIDSON, Broadneck

First-year coach set a unique strategy at the outset of the season: She didn't stack her lineup with only the most talented gymnasts but utilized an array of girls to build relationships and give everyone experience. It paid off in the Bruins' winning the county title at season's end.

First-Team Girls

MEGAN ASKEW, Chesapeake, Soph.:

Solid Level 8 competitor won the all-around at three of Chesapeake's five regular season meets and at the county championships (35.225). Also won floor title at counties (9.25).

LEIGH EDWARDS, Arundel, Sr.: Three-year competitor for the Wildcats was the county's top gymnast on bars. At county championships, won bars title (9.1) and finished fourth all-around (34.4). Placed second on vault at states and fourth on bars.

JACKIE KINSELLA, Severna Park, Fr.: Former Level 8 club competitor placed fifth all-around (33.75) at county championships and won the vault title with a handspring, full-twist (9.1). Placed third on vault at state championships (8.85).

KARI KRENZKE, Arundel, Jr.: First-year high school competitor helped make Wildcats one of county's top squads. Placed second on bars (9.0), third on beam (8.5) and third all-around at county championships.

First-Team Boys

CHAD GRANOFSKY, Chesapeake, Jr.: Placed fourth all-around at county championships (42.8), where he also took third on rings (6.3) and high bar (7.4).

KYLE REGAN, Broadneck, Fr.: Talented Class 3 club gymnast placed second all-around (47.6) at county championships and also finished second on pommel horse, parallel bars, rings and high bar.

BERNARD STRAUGHN, Old Mill, Sr.: One of two gymnasts in the county to attempt the difficult Tsukahara vault this season, Straughn won the vault title (8.9) at counties and placed fifth all-around (42.6).

RICHARD THOMPSON, Severna Park, Sr.: Captured third-place all-around (44.2) at county championships. Also placed second on floor (8.2) and third on rings, high bar and parallel bars.
