The following Southern Maryland college students and employees were honored recently for their achievements and service.

Calvert County

* At the College of Southern Maryland, 27 students were named to the 2004 Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges this spring. The college's honors program nominates outstanding students for their academic accomplishments. Students from Calvert County who were honored include Don Averitt of Port Republic and Philip Ong of Lusby.

* For the past four years the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation has awarded scholarships covering tuition, books and fees associated with pursuing a degree in nursing to promising candidates who want to pursue a nursing career. This year's recipients included Carolyn Bankman of Lusby.

* Beth Graham of Lusby has earned a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.

* Theodore Krehbiel of Chesapeake Beach has earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

* Darren Markward, a 1999 graduate of Calvert High, has graduated magna cum laude from Towson University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and has accepted a position with the Stout, Causey and Horning accounting firm in Hunt Valley in Baltimore County. While at Towson, he was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is the son of Lenore and Harry Markward of Huntingtown.

* Kenneth B. Thompson of Prince Frederick has earned Dean's List honors at Frostburg State University. He is a junior majoring in music education.

* Christopher Walker of Prince Frederick has earned a bachelor of architecture degree from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

Charles County

* College of Southern Maryland students from Charles County who were named to the 2004 Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges this spring include: Karlee Adams of Indian Head; Amanda Boswell of Marbury; Kitty Bourn of La Plata; Thomas Eicholtz of La Plata; Aminata Esema of White Plains; Melanie Fowler of Waldorf; Cheyann Gilroy of Bryans Road; Shaute Mason of Waldorf; Shawn Murphy of La Plata; Bharati Nepal of Waldorf; Tracy Reid of White Plains; Annah Rice of Waldorf; and Wyatt Sagers of La Plata.

* Mollie Carter of Waldorf has earned a bachelor of architecture degree from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

* Brian Cavanaugh of La Plata has earned a bachelor of science in aerospace engineering from the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

* The St. Mary's Hospital Foundation awarded a scholarship for tuition, books and fees to nursing student Crystal Jones of La Plata.

* Jennifer Manion of Waldorf has earned Dean's List honors at the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, where she is a senior majoring in surface pattern design.

* Charles Reyes of Waldorf has earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

* Emily Wathen of Welcome has earned Dean's List honors at the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, where she is a freshman majoring in art.

* Allison Wright of La Plata has earned a master of education degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

St. Mary's County

* College of Southern Maryland students from St. Mary's County named to the 2004 Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges this spring: Karen Deatherage of California; Raquel Evans of Mechanicsville; Jason Masri of Mechanicsville; Megan Oursler of Drayden; Jessica Roberts of California; David Russell of Lexington Park; Richard Russell of Mechanicsville; April Sheriff of Hollywood; Adam Steinback of Mechanicsville; and Melanie Tyner of Mechanicsville.

* The St. Mary's Hospital Foundation awarded scholarships for tuition, books and fees to nursing students Robert Alvey of Lexington Park; Frances Delmaro of Great Mills; Priscilla Scriber of Lexington Park; Brandi Morgan and Katherine Tyner, both of Mechanicsville.

* St. Mary's College of Maryland campus police Sgt. Eric Antonio "Tony" Brooks earned a Customer Service Award from the St. Mary's County of Chamber of Commerce for his service to the students, educators and staff members.

* Mary McCabe of Leonardtown has earned a bachelor of science degree in human development from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

* Lisa Minnick of Charlotte Hall has earned a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering from the College of Engineering at the Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
