Players of the Year

ALLISON DACIEK, Severna Park, Sr.

Daciek, a four-year impact player, was undefeated in the regular season, then won the county and regional girls' singles titles and advanced to the quarterfinals of the state meet. As a freshman, she placed third in the state meet in mixed doubles, then as a sophomore won the state girls' doubles championships. As a junior, she advanced to the state meet in singles play. She will compete for Washington College in Chestertown next year.

DEREK RALET, Old Mill, Sr.

An exchange student from Belgium, Ralet hoped to play high school sports during his year in the United States, since most youth athletics in his country are outside the school program. And indeed he played, finishing 17-0 in the regular season, then winning the boys' singles titles at the county and regional meets.

Coach of the Year

Jason Kesselman, Spalding

Third-year coach led the Cavaliers to 12-0 record to win the MIAA B Conference regular season and the tournament championship, the school's first conference title in tennis. Under Kesselman's direction, the team was 6-3 in 2002 and 9-1 a year ago, winning the regular season MIAA title.

First-Team Boys

MATT BULKLEY, Severna Park, Jr.: Second at county championships for the second straight year. Regional champion in the 2003, second this season to Ralet. Advanced to second round of states in 2003.

ROB DUPAYA, Spalding, Sr.: 15-0 for the Cavaliers, including a singles victory and a doubles win (with Steve Peltzman) at the conference championship. Will play next season for Mount St. Mary's.

CHAD JONES, South River, Sr.: 7-2 in the regular season, fourth in county meet and third at regionals.

CLINT KOHLER, Arundel, Jr., and PETER SOOY, Arundel, Jr.: 10-1 boys' double team finished second at county meet.

BRIAN MURRAY, Broadneck, Sr., and ELLIOT POWELL, Broadneck, Jr.: 8-0 as partners in boys' doubles. Third at county and regional meet boys.

STEVE PELTZMAN, Spalding, Sr.: Finished 12-1 at No. 1 singles for the Cavaliers and led Spalding with a singles win and doubles win (with Dupaya) in the MIAA B Conference championships.

First-Team Girls

CHRISTINE AGGABAO, Old Mill, Soph.: Helped Patriots to county title. Finished second in county and regional meets to Daciek.

NICOLE AYLOR, Southern, Fr., and

SALLY STICKELS, Southern, Soph.: 7-4 in regular season girls' doubles play, second at county and regional meet. The first Southern tennis players to advance to the state meet in two decades.

MARIA DePONT, Broadneck, Sr.: Finished the season 10-3, playing mostly mixed doubles. Second in the region at mixed doubles. Career record is 31-5.

NESMA GUNKEL, North County, Sr.: 7-2 in first year of playing singles and 1-0 at mixed doubles. She will play for Anne Arundel Community College next season.

SARAH ELLENBERGER, Broadneck, Jr., and ALYSON SHIELDS, Broadneck, Jr.: Undefeated in regular season girls' doubles. Bruins pair also took championship at county and regional meets.
