The Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Catholic and Baptist churches in Middleburg hold a joint service every year in honor of the small chapel built by Leven Powell overlooking the town in 1790. The chapel was turned over to the town by his son, Burr Powell, in 1820 as a place where people of all faiths could worship in 1820 and was called the "Free Church." The service is always held at the Free Church -- now the Baptist Church at 207 E. Federal Street in Middleburg. The service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday.
