Looking for volunteer opportunities? The following organizations need volunteer help for a day, a week or on a regular basis.

American Red Cross has volunteer orientations to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies in the community. Orientations are scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to noon June 18 at the Montgomery County office, 2020 East West Hwy., Silver Spring, 202-728-6400, and for 6-7 p.m. Thursday and 3-4 p.m. June 18 at the Upcounty Services Center, 200 Girard St., Suite 204, Gaithersburg, 301-627-0074.

Department of Health and Human Services seeks hundreds of volunteers to participate in a mock immunization exercise. Participants will serve as clinic patients, going through a process that includes being transported to the clinic, filing out forms and waiting in lines for vaccination. Snacks and beverages will be provided, and first-aid kits will be distributed to participants. The exercise is scheduled from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21 at various staging areas. Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants for the following vacancies:

Commission on People with Disabilities has eight vacancies: three representatives of organizations or agencies that provide services to people with disabilities; four representatives of people with disabilities; and one parent of a person with disabilities. Three persons with disabilities and one parent of a person with disabilities are eligible to apply for reappointment. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Library Board has four vacancies; four incumbents are eligible to reapply. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Board of Registration for Building Contractors has two at large representative vacancies; one incumbent is eligible to reapply. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Silver Spring Transportation System Management Advisory Committee has a partial-term vacancy that expires in June 2006 for a large business of more than 50 employees. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Regional Recreation Advisory Boards have several vacancies in the following areas: Upcounty, five vacancies, three incumbents are eligible to reapply; Mid-County, three vacancies, one incumbent is eligible to reapply; Silver Spring, four vacancies, three incumbents are eligible to reapply; East County, four vacancies, three incumbents are eligible to reapply; and Western, three vacancies, one incumbent is eligible to reapply. Some of the positions are for alternates or partial-term positions. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Countywide Recreation Advisory Board has nine vacancies, including four alternate representatives; three incumbents are eligible to reapply. Some vacancies are for partial terms. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Wheaton Redevelopment Steering Committee has two vacancies. Members serve two-year terms without compensation.

Board of Social Services has four vacancies; three incumbents are eligible to reapply. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee has three general public vacancies. Members serve without compensation.
