Softball First Team

P Carrie Higdon, La Plata, Junior

Repeat All-Extra struck out 13 and allowed one hit in a 1-0 victory over Calvert in the Maryland 3A South Region semifinals, avenging two regular season losses to the Cavaliers. Went 11-3 with 1.17 ERA. Batted .462 with 15 RBI.

C Kelsea Bullock, Patuxent, Freshman

Showed the poise and game sense of a veteran. Batted .323 from the cleanup spot. Hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel Patuxent to a 2-1 victory over Thomas Stone on April 27. Picked off three base runners from third base.

1B Megan Travers, Calvert, Senior

Second-team All-Met and repeat All-Extra did not commit an error the past two seasons. Batted .313 and drove in 17 runs.

2B Maggie Donaldson, Thomas Stone, Sophomore

Terrific leadoff hitter batted .384 with 10 steals and 16 runs. Drove in 18 runs and struck out only three times in 65 at-bats.

SS Lindsey Preuss, La Plata, Senior

All-Met and repeat All-Extra batted .571 and slugged .873. A leader on and off the field, she struck out only three times, made only four errors and was La Plata's class valedictorian. Will play at Virginia.

3B Sha Tabor, Thomas Stone, Sophomore

Batted a team-high .478 with two home runs and 17 RBI. Scored 22 runs and stole six bases.

OF Jamie Bussey, La Plata, Senior

Second team All-Met and repeat All-Extra batted .461 with 14 RBI and did not commit an error. Will play at Hood College in Frederick.

OF Christine Shipyan, Westlake, Junior

Wolverines' team MVP batted .609 in 17 games with 20 runs and 22 RBI. Struck out just twice in 46 at-bats.

OF Alex Sita, Northern, Sophomore

Spark plug at the top of the order led the Patriots with a .382 batting average and 21 runs as the offense struggled early on. Second-team All-Met had 10 games with at least two hits.

UT Jessica Crum, Calvert, Senior

Vastly improved her hitting to .376 along with eight doubles to go along with a strong, accurate arm at shortstop. Will play at the College of Southern Maryland.

UT Somer Miller, Westlake, Senior

Speedy veteran batted .320 with 14 steals and 21 runs. Had four doubles, two triples and two home runs.

UT Amanda Mitchell, Calvert, Senior

Shifted from catcher to outfield this season but remained an offensive force, batting .394 with seven extra-base hits.
