Key Moments

* April 6

The Cougars lose to Landon, 16-7, a week after losing to Georgetown Prep, 17-5. The back-to-back losses leave Oakton 2-2 on the season, but playing the Interstate Athletic Conference powers makes the Cougars better. They do not lose again the rest of the year. Landon and Prep finish ranked Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in The Post.

* June 3

Trailing Robinson late in the fourth quarter of the Virginia AAA Northern Region semifinals, the Cougars score three consecutive goals to force overtime. In the extra session, junior attack Matt Silton takes a feed from sophomore midfielder Sturgis Sobin and scores the game-winner.

* June 7

Again trailing by three late -- this time to W.T. Woodson in the Virginia AAA Northern Region final -- the Cougars score five of the game's final six goals.

The last, by senior midfielder Reed Carlstrom with just 26 seconds to play, gives Oakton an 11-10 victory.

* June 12

The first five minutes of the unofficial Virginia championship are the difference in the Cougars' 18-12 victory over Albemarle. Junior midfielder Cody Grimm wins the game's first five faceoffs leading to goals by Silton, sophomore attack Donald Murphy, senior attack Dave Thomas, Grimm himself and senior attack Quinn Cooke.

"You look at the difference at the end, it's that first quarter," said Albemarle Coach Scott Neese.
