Debra Comer of Sterling and her mother, Ruth, were honored as outstanding foster parents at the second annual Foster Parent Appreciation Gala on May 1 in Washington. Debra's father, Ray, who died last year, also was honored.

Area residents have been named to the dean's list at Virginia Tech for the spring semester. To qualify, students must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and earn a 3.4 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The students include:
