Middleburg Bank Renovates

Middleburg Bank has begun a major expansion of its branch office at 431 E. Main St. in Purcellville. The work is expected to take six months.

The renovations will include a customer welcome desk, conference room, expanded waiting area and offices for commercial lending, mortgage banking and investment services, said Joe Boling, chairman and CEO of Middleburg Bank.

Brokerage Honors Its President

Armfield, Harrison & Thomas Inc., a Leesburg insurance brokerage, recently honored its president, Howard M. Armfield, on his 35th anniversary with the firm.

Armfield started his career with AH&T in 1969. He became a principal and member of the board of directors in 1971, vice president in 1981 and president in1997. He has also been the company's financial and executive manager and treasurer since 1971.

Sparky's Garage Wins ADDY

Sparky's Garage, a Leesburg marketing agency, won a National Silver ADDY award from the American Advertising Federation for the packaging it created for Doc Harry's, a line of hot sauces and drink mixes sold online and in upscale food markets.

The ADDY awards are the world's largest advertising competition. Each fall, the competition begins at a local level with contests among the 210 federation member clubs nationwide. Local winners then advance to 14 regional competitions, and those winners proceed to the national finals.

Fewer than one percent of all entries receive a national ADDY Award.

Wachovia Hires Financial Adviser

Wachovia Securities announced that Stuart F. Pierson Jr. has joined the firm as a financial adviser in the private client group and will be based in its Warrenton branch.

Pierson was working at MetLife Securities as a financial services representative.

Chamber's Showcase Breakfast

The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly networking Business Showcase Breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. July 8 at the Belmont Country Club in Ashburn.

This monthly networking event averages 125 attendees and offers an opportunity for business people to meet, exchange business cards, develop prospects and strike a few deals. Each attendee has the opportunity to stand up and introduce himself to the group and participate in roundtable discussions that showcase each business.
